NATBIOT, part of the larger RAMSAT project funded by the Interreg Europe Program 2014-2020, is a significant initiative aimed at revitalizing remote and mountainous regions through sustainable alternative tourism.
The project was presented in a thematic webinar on 22.10.2020, under the title "Use of natural heritage ecotourism," organized by Rasinari Municipality, Romania, designated as Partner 6 in the project.The core idea of ​​NATBIOT (ROBG-356) revolves around leveraging natural and bio resources to promote ecotourism.
This project is co-financed by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund under the Interreg VA Romania-Bulgaria Programme.
It focuses on the development and promotion of ecotourism in six European partner regions, aiming to share and implement good practices in this domain.The Bulgarian partner, Association Euroregion Pleven-Olt, played a crucial role in the webinar, with Iliana Georgieva serving as the Project Manager and Diana Miteva as the Financial Expert.
They highlighted the projects objectives, activities, and the potential for transfer and implementation in similar regions.
NATBIOTs approach is particularly tailored for areas with underrecognized natural and cultural heritage sites that have high potential for generating revenue.
It is well-suited for remote and cross-border areas, suggesting an integration of services like accommodation, dining, transport, and leisure activities that align with green tourism principles.One of the remarkable features of NATBIOT is the creation of four tourist routes developed within the project.
These routes are designed to showcase the natural and cultural heritage of the regions, offering tourists an immersive and responsible travel experience.
The project also emphasizes the importance of local community involvement and the benefits of sustainable tourism for local economic development.NATBIOT aligns with the broader goals of the RAMSAT project, which include enhancing the attractiveness and visitation of cultural and natural heritage sites, and increasing investments for the promotion, protection, and improvement of these heritages.
The project embraces various forms of sustainable alternative tourism, such as ecotourism, adventure tourism, cultural tourism, and rural tourism, each contributing uniquely to the sustainable development of the regions involved.The partnership network for NATBIOT is extensive, including leading organizations from various European countries, such as the Alto Alentejo Intermunicipal Community in Portugal, Zasavje Regional Development Agency in Slovenia, the Provincial Government of Teruel in Spain, Rural Area Partnership in Derry Ltd (RAPID) in Ireland, and the Regional Development Agency Center in Romania, alongside the Bulgarian and Romanian partners.Overall, NATBIOT stands out as a model project for sustainable tourism development, demonstrating how natural and cultural resources can be effectively harnessed to foster economic growth, community engagement, and environmental stewardship in cross-border regions.
